Dear, Mr. Gutierrez. Happy Birthday, SuperIronBatman!

Happy weekend and Thanksgiving week, everyone! It doesn’t really feel very festive for us, but more than ever, I feel like I have so much to be thankful for. Today is my wonderful husband’s birthday. Can I talk about this guy for a minute? Just for a minute, I promise. Lol

He's silly...funny...crazy...just like me.

I became friends with Mr. Gutierrez a little over 5 years ago. Just like any other social creatures, I also had deep underlying desire in finding that one perfect man to spend the rest of my life with. But I have never thought that he is that man. We were good friends. We have the same likes, and dislikes. He's just about as crazy as I am. I never believed in soul mate… well not…until I met him.

“Thank you” is an understatement for how I truly feel. Throughout these years I have felt this profound sense of gratitude for being given the gift of this relationship with Daniel and his influence in my life. Though at times, I drive him bat-shit crazy, but despite that, he loves me unconditionally. He is a saint for putting up with me and loving me anyway.

Here’s my final shout out! Happy birthday, my SuperIronBatman! When you and I met 5 years ago, you really had no idea what you were getting into, did you? Sorry that you are stuck with me….forever! lol You are my favorite human being that has ever existed. I love you more than coffee (you know I can’t live without coffee!), more than books, more than pizza, and more than basically anything else. You believe in me, and you always see the best in me, and that is irreplaceable. You are the best thing that ever happened to me. Thank you. I love you. I adore you.

I'm seriously beyond glad that you were born and because of that I get to spend the rest of my life chasing after you. I miss you like crazy, Babe!

Rekado Restaurant: Makati's new kid on the block.

I love Makati City. I love how this place is constantly changing, with new bars and restaurants popping up regularly, including Rekado. Rekado is the new kid on the block located at the Ground Floor of The Columns Tower 2, just across from RCBC Plaza.

In English, ‘rekado’ means ingredients. Yes, the place is so Filipino and that is why I am starting to love this restaurant. Their menu is in Tagalog, but no worries, they have menu in English, as well. Their menu has a pretty wide selection. For vegetarians, like Donna, they have seafood and veggie options. Basically, there is a little something for everyone.

This is KKK (Php205.00). I love mussels, I love oysters, I love butter, and yes, I love this dish! Note that everything was for sharing. I’d say it’s good for 2-3 persons per serving.

Sizzling squid (Php265.00). This is love! This is squid on sizzling plate with mushrooms and vegetables in a yummy sauce. I love sizzling squid, and this was one of the best versions of this dish I've ever had. It was so flavorful. I would make Rekado a monthly habit just for this, which is definitely a must try.

Halaan Soup (Php150.00). This is a Filipino style soup made with clams cooked with garlic, ginger and onions. Every time I crave a simple seafood soup dish, I always go for this.

Pinaputokan na Tilapia (Php240.00). It’s nothing special, but it’s still good enough.

Space in the restaurant is a little tight, but the setting is elegant and well put together. Tables are closely positioned, but the space works. The food is good and it’s worth the price. The service is good, as well. If you’re in the area, you might want to check this place out.

I just want to add that I’ve been asked why I care so much about the service. People come in the restaurant for good food, but we also come to be pampered. Any great restaurant is about more than the food – it has to have great service too. I am actually more forgiving of mediocre food than slack service.

Taiwan Excellence in the Philippines: Enabling Filipinos to enjoy an excellent lifestyle.

The Taiwan Government, through its Bureau of Foreign Trade of Taiwan (BOFT) and Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), is launching the first-ever Taiwan Excellence campaign in the Philippines. The campaign is not only to showcase the superb Taiwanese brands, but also to raise brand awareness and to give Filipino consumers the opportunity to discover a range of Taiwanese products with the seal of quality.
Taiwan Excellence campaign will be bringing 56 top quality brands-175 products to the Philippine market, which fall under different industries such as information and communications technologies (ICT), home and living, and sports & leisure. Some of the brands under the campaign include Acer, Asus, BenQ, Draytek, HCG, KingCom, KW Trio, Kymco, MSI, Silicon Power, Sym, Transcend, and many more.

About Taiwan Excellence:

Established in 1992, Taiwan Excellence is a campaign that recognizes high-quality Taiwanese brands, guaranteeing their superior quality and value. The Award of Taiwan Excellence today is the highest accolade awarded to Taiwan products that encapsulate innovalue. The symbol of Taiwan Excellence heralds Taiwan’s ascent to world-class quality in product innovation, design and manufacturing, representing the highest standards which Taiwan products must meet to maintain its competitive edge in the global markets.

To qualify for these awards, the products go through a rigorous screening process to ensure that they are of the highest standard and can proudly represent the unique and innovative culture of Taiwan.

Each product is scored based on its R&Ddesignquality, and marketing by an international panel of judges. Each product must score evenly well in each category in ordered to be selected.

From among the selected products, the judges choose those who deserve the Silver and Gold Award recognition. They will select thirty from the original winners, with only ten to be given the Gold Award, the highest recognition under the campaign, while the remaining finalists will be given the Silver Award. If selected, the brands and products were allowed to use the Taiwan Excellence Seal locally and internationally.

With Taiwan Excellence Seal, Filipino consumers will be able to distinguish the best Taiwan-made products, and can make educated decisions with their purchases. It will give Filipino buyers an assurance that they are purchasing world-class, innovative, reliable, and worthy products made to conform to the highest quality standards.

Mom's Birthday Dinner @ Buddha Bar, Makati City

Dark, mysterious, sensuous and chic! Buddha Bar ticks every box in terms of interior decoration and high end food with Pacific Rim influences. With a giant Buddha as its centerpiece, dining here definitely creates the sense that you are in a different world, one that is glamorous, classy and sophisticated.

Located at Picar Place on Kalayaan Avenue, Buddha Bar is impressively spacious. The establishment has two floors, and outside terrace with a pool, numerous balconies where you can enjoy chilling with friends or family. Buddha-Bar Manila highlights refined and exotic cuisine with exciting mix of flavors and cultures. And I love how all the dishes are prepared to a family-style concept. It can be shared as it is served in large dishes rather than individual plates.

Even though I have read tons of reviews before making a reservation here, we still had trouble choosing what to order. We’d love to try everything but that wouldn't be possible! Haha! I opted to get what few bloggers recommended. And indeed, this Pink Lady (Php203.90 – 4 pcs) is definitely a must try.

We have also ordered Maki Spicy Tuna (Php150.71 – 4pcs). This is one of my favorite spicy tuna rolls in the city. And this is also good for those who don't want to spend a lot of money like me. hehe!

Rex ordered Maguro - Tuna (Php257.09 - 5pcs). This tasted incredibly fresh. If we could - we'd eat sashimi and sushi every day. Yes, Rex and I are certified Japanese food lover. :D

Robert ordered this Grilled Salmon (Php780.14), it's quite good. It's served with green beans (we had a funny discussion about whether it's a monggo or what haha), and this yummy sauce.

I ordered Petite Spring Rolls (Php283.69) for my Mom. She's limited to what she can eat, so I had to choose something healthy. This one is a Vietnamese-style spring rolls filled with vegetables and served with sweet and sour sauce. I love this one.

We also tried this Thai Salad (Php434.40) which was just so-so. It's a combination of Green Papaya Salad and grilled shrimps and calamaris. It taste good, but I expected it to be something different. It tasted more of an Achara (say 'ah-cha-ra').

The food at Buddha Bar was scrumptious with each dish singing loudly with freshness and a refreshing quality. The service was lovely and relaxed, and the cozy interior decoration completed Mom's enchanting birthday dinner experience. The prices were a bit steep, but it’s totally worth it, definitely one of the best restaurant experiences we ever had.
